HOW'S THE VIEW FOR YOU?

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 19:27 by dan

If you haven't had the opportunity to check out the vistas from the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, you're starving your eyes.

Survive the 200-some steps climbing the face of Baldwin Hills off Jefferson Blvd., and you won't regret the reward.  And Culver City residents may be able to walk contiguously from Culver City Park to the beautiful and educational Balwin Hills Scenic Overlook.  The City Council gave approval to the MRCA (Mountain Recreation Conservation Authority) to work with City staff to install a trail through Culver City Park to the overlook.

Climb If You Dare!

SKATE PARK

Tuesday, 11 August 2009 17:09 by dan

Why is the skate park closed?

It is closed for the construction of a new tubular steel fence that will have a longer life than the chain link fence that was originally installed.

Why is the construction happening during some of the summer vacation instead of after school is back in session?

There was a desire to make the skate park safer and more secure as soon as possible.

Is there a reason why the skate park opens in the middle of the day instead of in the morning and closes in the mid-afternoon on weekends?

The reason for these opening and closing times is that they are coordinated with the schedule of Culver City's Parks and Playgrounds staff that can be there to oversee the park.

DOGS IN THE PARKS

Tuesday, 11 August 2009 17:06 by dan

I sometimes see people walking their dog in the park.  Is this OK?

Dogs are not allowed in Culver City Parks unless they are one of the two “Pooch Paths,” or Culver City's Dog Park, known as the "Bone Yard".  Otherwise, one can be given a citation for walking their dog(s) in a park.  The citation fee for this infraction is: First Offense, $100; Second Offense, $200; Third and Subsequent Offenses (within the same year), $500.

I have heard that there are “Pooch Paths” in some Culver City Parks.  Can you tell me where they are and what they are used for?

There are only two “Pooch Paths” at this time.  There is one that passes through Culver West Alexander Park from McConnell St to Moore St.  The other “Pooch Path” is located in Culver City Park and goes from Jefferson Blvd. to the Bone Yard (dog park) and to the restrooms at the picnic shelter. This ‘path’ is meant to be a means for dog walkers to walk through a portion of the park in order to get to the Bone Yard.

TRAILS

Tuesday, 11 August 2009 17:01 by dan

Has Culver City ever considered connecting Culver City Park with the new State Parks Overlook above Blair Hills?

Actually, yes.  Currently the City of Culver City and the Mountains Recreation Conservation Authority (MRCA) is working on a trail project that will connect the Ballona Creek Walking and Bike Path through Culver City Park to the Overlook, down to Jefferson Blvd., further along to Higuera Street, and back again to the Ballona Creek Walking and Bike Path.

THE PLUNGE SWIMMING POOL

Tuesday, 11 August 2009 16:56 by dan

What is planned for the dirt area in front of the Plunge?

A design has just been completed to landscape the area with drought tolerant shrubs and plant material.  It is a project the city is working on completing this year.
